I have a new short posted on YouTube demonstrating how I made this "bath sponge print." It is a super easy and effective way to get great and grungy texture in your gel prints.
You can pick these mini sponges up at the Dollar Tree and you get four of them in the pack. I always like to take at least one of them and take it apart. Because they are so cheap, they are extremely easy to unravel (which may not make them great for anything but art!) All you have to do is untie the string and the whole thing comes undone. Once unraveled it reminds me of produce bag mesh which also make fabulous texture on the gel plate.
Once you roll out your paint colors, all it takes is a few gentle pats in order to transfer that texture. Or, if you are using one that you have unraveled, you can place your mesh on top of your wet paint, place a piece of scrap paper or tissue on top of the mesh and give the whole thing a mash. This one is a simple and effective tool for adding grunge and/or lovely texture to a print. Once you're done with it, let the paint dry and it's ready to be used again and again.
